Due to rampant asshattery, I got in from work less than an hour ago, and promptly dropped my dinner on the floor. I am tired and dispirited, and I just have one panel to finish for this week's update... Grr.

Maybe I should take a nap or something.

After (yet another) unexpected hiatus and an update snafu, Cottonfluff Hollow is live.

I have far too much to do, including preparing for MoCCA-fest, but I figured I should say something here.

Well, load-in, anyway.

Despite all intentions to the contrary, I don't have a comic ready yet, not like my friend Liz over at Freewheel. But, I have some time before it's supposed to post, so I'll see what can be done. The page is drawn p (except for one character in one panel), and I should be able to work in the downtime before the con actually begins.

If you're coming (most of you who have friended this journal likely won't), I hope to see you there!

One of these days, I need to do a floor plan for Amaranth's house, especially with the party decorations and all. But not today.

Apparently I can't count.

And, as promised, here is an Easter Egg or two.

Red Ninja Guard is chock-full of eggs.

Well, maybe not that many. His battle cry of "Kiyah!" as opposed to the traditional "Hiyah!" has its roots in me, my twin brother, and our best friend Sam whiling away many a summer afternoon playing the old-school WWF (NOT WWE- that's how old it was) roleplaying game.

His lunge towards the foreground in Page 21 is another homage to this; for the 2 of  you out there who've played the game (and I will stop dating myself in a moment, I promise) may remember the most devestating maneuver in the game, a submission move called "the Claw,"  which could be performed in literally any situation. For those of you not so familiar with wrestling, it is essentially the act of grippng your opponent with outstretched fingers, in a sneaky martial-arts type way.

And somehow this makes you tap out. :-/

Anyway, more RNG stuff!

Surprisingly enough, there is no "Eyes of a giraffe" story, though I wih there was. I just came up with it, while working on the page after I realized that Stan was looking directly at Red. But that did pave the way for some more Eggs, as that "extra space" was a great place for titles and such.

Page 18 is a small homage to He-Man, or more correctly, one of me and my twin brother's favorite jokes about him: the moral of the story. If you're less than 22, you probably won't appreciate it quite so much.

Page 20 is a nod to the first Ninja Turtle movie. No, really, it is. Go back and watch it, then try not to groan or facepalm. I'll wait.

And here is your last Egg of the day. (I don't want to overload you, this is actually kind of fun, and i will be doing it more often.) Red Ninja Guard's constant use of the word "Defeated" might seem like classic poorly-dubbed martial-arts film chatter, but it is actually a reference to the Super Nintendo game Evo: Search for Eden.

I swear.  Go on, download an emulator, play all the way through it ( If you want to become a human, listen to the stegosaurus. And don't be a jerk and eat him after he tells you how to unlock the hominids), I'll be here working on more comics.

Has had text dropped into it. Would have gotten more done, but we had to iron some things out over here in Sapoland today. Meetings take so long.

And I figured out why Amaranth' never seems to fit right in frame (not that you knew I felt that she didn't fit right or anything)- it's the scaling. I don't want to make the little folk seem *too* little...Or something.

Anime Boston is 2 weeks away. I'm excited.

CottonFluff Hollow has updated (late, but it's not my fault)!

Still trying to build that backlog and maintain a vestige of a real life. We'll see how it goes.

Must... finish... comic...

It's a Progress Report!

In a nutshell, the way that these pages are put together is as follows:

• Scripts are written, ususally in blocks of 2 to 4 at a time. (I know where I want the storyto go, but I have to iron out the detals a lot of the time)
• Sketches are done.
• Said sketched are scanned, (into Photoshop, for those of you who worry about such things,) then text is placed, or as I refer to it when talking to myself, "dropped" into the frames.
• After text is dropped, ink and paint is done digitally, one panel at a time.
  
• If I hadn't thought of a page title/caption while writing the script, one gets thought up while coloring.
  

Pages 56-59 have been written.
Pages 56-58 have been sketched.

If we can keep this pace up, there will be a new page ready by Thursday (but it won't update before Saturday).

The comic will be late this week... There were script revision problems that led to it taking a lot longer than it should have to get it all put together- I had written it a week and a half ago, and was pleased with it. Then I looked at it at the start of this week, and it just didn't work.

So I re-wrote it, and broke it into two pages, and spinkeld bits of it into the next few pages. Unfortunately, this rethinking process took up most of the available time this week, so I have a bunch of notes and sketches, but nt enough time to Photoshop them into the presentation quality standard that we've come to know and love, because of meetings and work this week.

The comic will update on Monday, then I start on Project: Backlog.

So this thing doesn't update nearly as often as it should, and I keep saying that it will change.

So it is.

Amaranth'(the bigger one): Is that it?

Phill: Is what it?

Amaranth':  Is that the whole post?

Phill: Um... yeah. Why?

Amaranth': You can't just say that you're going to start doing things. You'll feel that the announcement is all that you have to do, and then promptly forget about the LiveJournal for another month and a half. You need to do something.

Phill: Hmm. You're' probably right. But like what?

Amaranth': Oh, I don't know... tell them that you got reviewed by Aarin of Aarin's Desk.

Phill: Oh, right. I'd actually forgotten about that. Thanks. Oh, and the blog somehow made another friend recently. A big hello to kylie_gmc! You're a trooper for showing up and making friends with me and my lazy, lazy webcomic blog.

Thank you Amaranth; I don't know what I would do without you.

Amaranth': Have less confusion when referring to your cast, for one. Let's get back to work.

Oh, and I totally feel like I fudged the current page.

I did to an extent, but now that I'm looking at it, it feels fudgy. This makes me sad.

The next page will be better; I've already started it.

Nag everyone who reads it that new comics are up, I suppose.

Even though my computer's power supply blew out on Saturday Morning, else there might have been a post here sooner.

Between life at home getting hectic, and preparing for the NY Comic-con, things have been less than pleasant these last few weeks (hence the lack of updates, for those of you who are watching) Late nights and early mornings and lots of pressure.

And now I seem to be getting sickish because of it... guh.

I would get a sore throat right before I have to smile and talk to people for three days straight.

So I'm going to work the load-in, then scuttle off and sleep the rest of the day, in the hopes of making a miraculous recovery.

And if nothing else, we have a crack team of minions this year, so not all of the pressure is on me and the Crew.

The NY Comic-Con is approaching fast, and due to this (we're hard at work creating a startling array of new fancy things,)  and other real-life concerns, (really, who holds a convention in February?) comics are late.

And I need to get some (more) sleep.
